May 29th, 2015
After an almost unbearable hiatus, the sun has finally returned to the Rocky Mountain States. The homecoming of our big beautiful star officially kicks off the summer season, which means it’s time to make the most of the outdoors. And what better way to get outside than to enjoy a picnic? To help you gear up for some fun in the sun, we’ve put together a cluster of deals and some helpful tips to ensure you have the best picnic possible.
1. Get the right grub!
Think easy & interesting. Albertsons always has awesome deals on quick picnic worthy goodies. For example, this week Albertsons has screaming deals on Sweet Red Cherries, buy one get one free gourmet La Bonne Vie cheeses, Deli Fresh salads, Grab ‘n Go snack trays, Blue Diamond Almonds, Hillshire Farm lunch meats, Vitamin water, and Beer.
If you have a few extra minutes to prepare, consider trying one of these quick and delicious picnic worthy recipes!
Bonus tip: Avoid packing Ice cream, puddings, and cakes – apart from being messy and not holding well in the heat, they are hard to transport and attract wasps and other unwanted pests.
2. Paper or Plastic?
Opt for paper or plastic plates and cutlery to add to ease of transport and to cut down on clean up. Plus, Albertsons has some great deals this week on all the paper and plastic picnic essentials. Check them out here!
3. Be cool.
If time permits, put bottled beverages in the freezer for a few hours before the picnic. The ultra-cold beverages can will keep food from overheating and the drinks will still be cold when you reach your picnic spot.
4. Remember something to sit on.
Although some of us love feeling the earth beneath us, others prefer to escape a damp rear. The traditional blanket always works well, but a tablecloth (yes, even the plastic kind will do!), beach towel, or bed sheet can also work wonders.
Bonus tip: A plastic shower liner placed underneath a blanket or sheet can cut down on dampness even more.
5. Cleanliness is next to godliness.
Remember to bring along those unused Albertsons plastic grocery bags for containing garbage in case there are no trash barrels at the picnic site. Also, consider packing some hand wipes to free you from the clutches of sticky fingers.
6. Transportation is key!
Sure a picnic basket is ideal, but let’s get real—how many people actually own one? If you’re like us and don’t have a picnic basket available, don’t fret! Load your goodies into a sturdy cardboard box, plastic bin, backpack, or even an Albertsons reusable bag!
7. Reverse it!
Pack your tote of choice in reverse order to make it easy to get at the items you need when you arrive at your picnic site. Place food on the bottom, then serving items and tableware, and finally the blanket, towel, or tablecloth.
8. Location, location, location!
Consider setting up on the banks of a nearby lake or stream, a local park or a rooftop garden. Better yet, plan a hiking excursion and bring the picnic with you. Stop when you get hungry or find a scenic viewpoint. Then simply sit back, relax and enjoy a picture-perfect feast.
9. Don’t forget the entertainment.
Bring along a board game, a deck of cards, a Frisbee, pigskin, or a Bluetooth speaker and your favorite playlist to keep your company engaged and the food comas at bay.
10. Bug out when the suns out.
Make sure to pack bug spray and sunscreen—‘nuff said.
Essentially, the perfect picnic is nothing more than choosing a great location, inviting some good company, bringing something to sit on, and packing some delicious grub. Now get out there and have some fun in the sun!
