The Weekly Nibble

No, that isn’t a chicken preparing to do a space walk. It’s actually a cooking tool that is controlled via a mobile device on your home network. As mobile devices and connectivity become more and more a part of our daily lives, the way we utilize them will expand beyond making phone calls or reading emails. In fact mobile devices are already bringing us new ways to read books, track our workouts, and get up–to-the-minute weather in our destination city. But what about at home in our favorite place to gather: the kitchen?

The kitchen and all that happens there will not be spared the invasion of mobile devices. We already are shopping for food, getting recipes and redeeming coupons via mobile, it’s just a matter of time before we can control our ovens, stoves, and refrigerators via mobile. Actually, it’s already here which takes us back to the Qumi.

The Qumi is a multi-use cooking tool that can be used to heat, fry and steam a wide variety of food types (including liquids such as soup or sauces). It is designed to be hung on an induction charging hook, making it wireless and portable. The concept features no display or control panel, rather all instructions are processed via mobile devices in the network-ready home. The best part is that when you want to put it away you can fold it up so it only takes up as much space as a dinner plate.

And yes I think there is an app for this, or maybe it can be controlled via a text message or a tweet! However we use mobile to reach the Qumi, the cool thing is we can start dinner whenever want from wherever we want.

So what do you think? Are you looking forward to mobile activation of the kitchen? Would you use a Qumi or something like it? What kitchen devices do you wish you could control remotely to make your life easier? More than likely sooner than later there will be an app for that!
