The Unsung Heroes in Our Communities
Jan 8th, 2013
School teachers and the institutions they serve are the unsung heroes in our communities, a fact that was reinforced even further before the holidays with the tragedy in Newtown, CT. While the outside of the buildings all usually say “School” or “Academy” we know it’s far more than that. It’s a place where our community’s children come to not only learn but to see positive things happen, feel valued and to build friendships, some of which will last their lifetimes. The teachers there go above and beyond every day, too, to make sure that the students leave better equipped to fulfill every dream that they have for the future. We know it’s a tough job – and one that falls to those who must be truly passionate about children and their profession.
Over the last few weeks, our Southwest division store directors were busy helping over 200 schools in the communities where they work and live. In recognition of the schools who have gone above and beyond in their own neighborhoods, our store teams got to pick two lucky ones that would each receive a very special donation of $1,000 – that could go to whatever they wanted or needed. Everywhere we went, our teams were greeted with warm smiles, grateful hugs and at times, even a few tear-filled eyes as our store directors announced why they were there. It was a great way to kick off the New Year, and our Southwest division team was grateful for the chance to give back.
To all the teachers in our lives, we thank you.
