3 Unique Cinco de Mayo Margs
Apr 30th, 2013
Most of us have enjoyed a classic margarita or two (or three), but how about a Beer-garita or Vanilla Bean Blood Orange Margarita? YUM! There are so many different types, it was hard to choose my top three, but I managed. Shake things up, invite some friends over and show off your mad margarita skills this Cinco de Mayo!
1. Skinny Beer-garitas from EatYourselfSkinny.com
2 cups frozen limeade (recipe below)
2 bottles of light beer
1/2 cup tequila
1 cup fresh lime juice + 2 limes for zesting
1 1/2 cups of water
1/2 cup Splenda sugar blend
To make the limeade:
Zest two limes. In a large saucepan, combine water, Splenda and lime zest and heat until Splenda is completely dissolved. Remove from heat and allow to cool at room temperature. Stir in lime juice and freeze your limeade concentrate until ready to use.
To make the beer-garitas:
In a pitcher, combine frozen limeade, 2 beers and 1/2 cup of tequila. Place pitcher in the freezer overnight until frozen through, then mix so that it is in slushy form and serve. Enjoy!
2. Lavender Margarita from CookingChannelTV.com
2 oz. silver tequila
1/2 oz. Cointreau
1 oz. lavender simple syrup
In a shaker, combine 2 oz. silver tequila, 1/2 oz. Cointreau, 1 oz. simple syrup and the juice of half a lime and let sit.
On a plate, mix the sugar and dried lavender and use it to rim the outside of a rocks glass.
Fill the glass with ice. Shake and strain the contents of the strainer into the glass.
3. Coeur de La Vanilla Bean Blood Orange Margaritas from Coeurdela.com
3oz of fresh squeezed blood orange juice
a teaspoon of fresh lime juice
1oz of triple sec
half of a scraped vanilla bean
In a standard cocktail shaker, add a handful of ice, your triple sec, tequila, and fresh blood orange juice, and a teaspoon of fresh lime juice.
Then, scrape half of a vanilla bean and get to shaking. The vanilla bean pods will break apart with the shaking.Pour into small frosted mason jars that have been rimmed with sugar. Serve with a cheesy straw.
