Food Donation Drive to benefit the Salvation Army

[Tolleson, AZ] December 13, 2013 – On Sunday December 22nd, 2013, the Sun Valley Community Church (SVCC) is partnering on the first ever Albertsons Invasion at Albertsons store #1023 located at 861 E. Warner Road, Gilbert, AZ 85296.  The Invasion is part of SVCC’s Out of the Box program, which over the last 2 years has helped to feed hundreds of families throughout the East Valley, with the help of The Salvation Army.

The event will begin at 9PM  when members of the Sun Valley Community Church, their friends, families and neighbors shop for non-perishable items that will be donated to the Salvation Army to help restock their food warehouse and enable them to help feed neighbors in need in local communities.

Said Shane Dorcheus, President of Albertsons Southwest Division.  “Sun Valley Community Church came to us with an intriguing idea and they have been great partners.  We know that the donations will be in good hands with the Salvation Army. They, too, have been a great partner in our ongoing commitment to hunger relief. We’re looking forward to having a great time at this first-ever store invasion event and raising a record amount of donations.”

“The Salvation Army is grateful to Sun Valley Community Church and Albertsons for their support” said Major John Brackenbury, Valley of the Sun program coordination. “During the month of November and December, the Salvation Army will serve more than 500,000 meals through holiday dinners, home delivered meals and food boxes. This event will go a long way to serve those in need.”

“Out of the Box is an opportunity to serve our community at Christmas and beyond.”  Said Chad Moore, Sun Valley Community Church Pastor.  “There are many in our city who struggle during this time of year and we’re grateful to partner with Albertson’s to help meet the need. The message of Christmas is that God in His love, mercy and grace came to meet our greatest need through the birth of Christ. We want to spread this message and the hope it brings! Our goal this year with help from Albertson’s is to provide 10,000 boxes of food to the Salvation Army to distribute to those who need it most. You can scan a card at Albertsons and provide a box for $20, or bring a box/boxes to one of our Sun Valley Community Church’s Christmas Eve services.”  More information can be found at box.sv.cc
