Albertsons Celebrates 16th Year as Komen Sponsor!

On Saturday, May 10, the Albertsons Headquarters parking lot transformed itself for its 16th year as the Corporate Sponsor of Susan G. Komen’s “Race for the Cure.”  In spite of the morning starting out with rain, over 12,000 people showed up to participate.  Fortunately, the sky cleared and the sun came out just minutes before the race started.

This year, however, the tone of Race for the Cure took on much more of a Memorial-tone for the Albertsons team; the week prior, a long-time and beloved member of the Albertsons team, Trish Yates, lost her courageous battle with cancer.  Her family came out in support on Saturday because, as her husband put it, “Trish wouldn’t have it any other way.”

This year, Albertsons launched a special social media campaign.  We asked participants to take photos and videos on their Instagram and Twitter accounts; for every post that used the hashtag #KomenBoise, Albertsons donated an additional $5 until we reached our goal of $10,000.  With Twitter and Instagram, we had over 2,000 posts using #KomenBoise!  At the end of the race, Intermountain President, Susan Morris, and Intermountain Communications & Public Affairs Manager, Dennis McCoy, presented a check of $10,000 to the representatives of Susan G. Komen.

It was a perfect Saturday with many smiles and a sea of pink wigs, tutus, t-shirts, and tennis shoes!  We loved everyone’s photos that came in through Instagram and we wanted to share some of our favorites with you.  Thanks to all who participated and helped us raise $10,000 to fight cancer:
