Bob’s Red Mill
Oct 27th, 2015
Bob’s Red Mill is a leading health food brand dedicated to providing the highest quality traditional whole grains. Bob Moore is the man behind Bob’s Red Mill in Milwaukie, Ore., a local landmark you must visit the next time you’re in the area.
Bob and his wife, Charlee, started Bob’s Red Mill in 1978 after Bob came across an old mill for sale. After over a decade of interest in stone-grinding flour mills and starting their first mill in California, Bob and Charlee came out of retirement and started the business up again, this time in Oregon City. After a fire destroyed their company’s Oregon City home, Bob and Charlee moved the business to Milwaukie. Today, the business covers seventeen acres just off Highway 224.
Look for Bob’s friendly face on all the packages of Bob’s Red Mill products. He works hard every day to provide customers with the best quality food available. Bob and his employees focus on trust, honesty and integrity — the three principles the business is built on. Watch his interview with Diane Sawyer in 2012 to hear about the generous gift he gave his employees.
If you’re in the Portland area, don’t leave without stopping by Bob’s Red Mill for a factory tour. Factory tours start at 10 a.m. Monday through Friday and last 1 and a half hours. The tour showcases all the work that goes on at the manufacturing facility, including a mill in action! And, do not be surprised if you run into Bob. He is every bit involved today as he was when he started the company in the ’70s.
After your tour, head a mile down the road to the restaurant. Look for the big red building along International Way. For hours and menus visit their website here.
