What is just for U?

just for U is a savings program with digital coupons and personalized deals that are available on the just for U app.

Why use just for U?

It saves time and money, creates personalized deals based on your shopping history, and it’s easy to use! No scissors or paper coupons needed. 

How does it work?

Download the app from the App Store (iPhone) or Google Play (Android), register with a phone number, add offers to your account, and enter your phone number during checkout. The savings will automatically be applied to your purchase!

    I can’t believe Albertsons finally implements digital coupons and then makes the app for only IOS 8+! There are still millions of iPhone 4 (IOS 7) users out there! We only shop at Albertsons about once a month as it is further away than your competitor (who has had digital coupons for at least 2 years now). My husband works nearby, but by the time he gets out of work, Albertsons is nearing closing time with not enough time to do full-scale grocery shopping. I’m sorry to say that the exclusion of the use of this app is one more reason not to shop at Albertsons at all as I see some of the coupons this week to promote the JustForU app are exclusive to the app and not available for clipping. If the idea is to gain more customers… well… seems like you might lose more than you gain.

    I also have a Safeway Just For U account. Will both my Safeway and Alberson’s remain separate or will they be combined?

    I don’t think it’s right that only customers with I-phones or androids are the customers who are able to receive the special offers. Your customers who do not have these high priced phones ARE the customers who need the additional savings. Dollar general has a program same as yours and you don’t need an app to use it and it works on the same premise as your phone number. I believe your company can quickly accommodate your non I-phone users if Dollar General can.

    I do not have a smart phone to download your just for U app but I would like to get digital coupons like I do with Kroger. Do you have a way I can take advantage of the digital coupons without being able to use an app?

    I want to echo “R”‘s complaint. I was excited when I read about Just For U until I discovered it wouldn’t work on my laptop. This is what makes Fred Meyer’s program appealing. Please bring the same thing to Albertsons.

    Hello. I do not have any type of smart phone, just a computer, so would love it if you had a downloadable app for PCs. I shop almost exclusively at Albertson’s, especially since one has recently opened in my area.

    I have a Windows Phone and can’t use the app either. However, I went to and was able to login and add items to my list…not sure if that transfers over to Albertson’s, but they use the same Point of Sale system so it should…

    I would like a way to load coupons from my computer and not my cellphone. This would be a good thing for many customers as well as for Albertsons sales. Please get more universal and less exclusive, with your discount programs.

I’d like to add that like others that commented here, I think access on a laptop/computer would be the best solution to make the digital coupons available to everyone whether they have access via phone or computer. I actually log into my account on Smith’s website on my laptop to load digital coupons and create a shopping list which is a lot easier than adding them on my phone. Then we use the Smith’s store app as a convenient for the shopping list while in the store shopping. Since it sounds like the app isn’t required to apply the coupons at checkout, being able to load the coupons online via computer would be great!

    I also just discovered another avenue that I would like to share. Anyone who has a SmartTV or streaming device connected to their TV that has access to the Google Play Store can find the JustForU app to install on the SmartTV or streaming device. I gave it a try and it worked great! My husband even stopped at Albertsons on his way home for a few things and the digital coupons applied perfectly!

    Will Albertson’s honor the coupons if we speak to a manager? I do not have an I-Phone or Android…and was always able to use Safeway’s application. Albertson’s needs to correct this toutsuite.

    Tom Thumb sends updates via email that I can load coupons on my desktop and windows phone. Makes it a whole lot easier than opening an app on my tablet and seeing there are over 100 items to add. Any plans on doing this?

    How aggravating to be excluded from digital coupons because I don’t have an Iphone or Android. I like to load digital coupons to a store rewards card or print coupons. Your marketing people need to understand that most people have a laptop or PC at home (and work.) So how does someone get ALL just for offers, other than just a few that are printed in weekly circulars?

    I agree with many of the comments regarding having computers and not smart phones. I also use digital coupons at Smith’s and Fred Meyer. Would like to have that option with Albertson’s as well.

    Can the Albertsons clip or click coupons be used at Safeway stores & can Safeway’s clip or clip coupons be used at Albertson’s since they both are owned by Albertsons? I have a Safeway within 10 miles but Albertsons is 40+ miles from me.

    Please allow me to use the “Just For U” site by letting use my personal computer. It worked just fine when using it for Safeway, why not for Albertsons “Just for U”. Please hurry to make it possible to take advantage of ALL the store Coupons/Specials/Just For U

    In my Albertsons store I see tags that say to “scan” the tag below for instant saavings. Is there another app I need to scan? Basically I’ll just be taking a picture of the tag correct?. One of the most confusing apps I’ve used but I still like it…

      Hello Bill, that is a great question! You will need to use the Albertsons Just For U app. When you click the Scan button within the app, it will open up a Bar code scanner. Use this function to scan the tag. It will bring up the coupon in your Just For U account. Click add, and the discount coupon will be loaded to your account. We hope this helps! -Aaron

    My store is the Albertsons in Ontario Oregon. I initally had trouble with the app. Had to put my phone number in several times. The area code kept going in the prefix spot and the prefix kept going in the area code spot. I got it complete but dont see a scan button or option on the justforu app I downloaded. Maybe I need to re-download the app???. I really like the app its just rather confusing.

    Can I reuse my just for u deals at different visits up until the expiration date and if so do I just need to go back and re click them?

      Ricki, the offer only need to be clipped once. However, offer usage can be found in the details of the offer. Many offers have limits to the amount of product the savings may be applied to and others have unlimited use. We hope this helps! -Julio

    So just because we do not have an I phone or android we cannot get the special coupons. Is this fair..It feels like you are giving special treatment to people who have these. Why can you not give it to everyone. You are unfair to older people who do not want a smart phone. You need to take care of all of your customers not just the ones with a smart phone.

    Boy, do I agree with all the complaints from those of us who don’t have (and will not be getting!) a smart phone. I’ve shopped almost exclusively at Albertson’s for 50 years but this latest “promotion” is enough to make me re-think my choice of grocery store. This should never have been rolled out until it was available to everyone. Since you’ve given everyone else the same “pat” reply that is not helpful in the least, don’t bother responding.

    How about just a good old fashion sale. Just give all the sale the good honest old fashion way, like we use to get sales. I get tired of stores thinking they have to add another way that only certain people can get in, get the deal, etc….. just offer a good honest sale to all.

    I think Albertson’s is going to take a huge loss with this, look at how many people do not have these high tech phones.
    I personally have many choices as to where I do my grocery shopping, I want to go to a store that has something on sale that does not require me to cut a coupon or download before I go to the store.
    Suggest they rethink their strategy.

    I would like to add my disappointment! It’s unfortunate that you must have the app.

    Your pharmacy “upgrade” not only caused longer prescription fill times, but now I can’t order refills online (must use the app!) and now this.

    I love the folks that work at my local store, they are great, but the people making these decisions are NOT thinking of their customers.

    I’ve read many of the comments from loyal customers who are not able to enjoy the same savings as others do just because they don’t have any of the phones for the apps that would enable them to save money. Most of them are saving money by not paying for an expensive cellphone. If you want to keep those loyal customers, you should do more than just “bring it to the Marketing Department for review and consideration”! Don’t just “talk the talk”–man up and “walk the talk”!

    Just for U app not worth it, every time there is an issue where I do not get the coupons or discounts that I should have on the app. I already only go to Albertsons when Items that I want are on sale, because of how expensive the store is. However, with the App’s issues I double I will continue using it. For instance, I spent $65 there because of a $5 off coupon if you spend over $50 thought when looking at my receipt that coupon and various others were not on there, even though I met the amounts listed. Albertsons has a LONG way to go before the App is a success. Tom Thumb is farther away but their app is MUCH better so I will go there instead.

    How do you know which are manufacturer’s coupons in the just for U app and which are store coupons?

      R, this distinction may be found in the offer details. Another indicator would be the value of the coupon. Manufacturer coupons are typically denoted with a specified amount off, whereas store coupons usually have a specified amount for the item. We hope you find this information helpful. -Julio

    Apparently your marketing team is not very bright. The Safeway just for U program worked fine with my laptop. I used it often. Yours, not so much. I don’t like clipping coupons and I don’t use a smartphone.

    What a mess ! Shopping at Albertsons I have missed getting my phone number in to get the gas rewards on time with the last two shopping trips. We don’t have the phones for the apps so we miss out on some of the great savings. I just read to today on your sight that the app will be on desktops 10/17 . They keep telling me at the store I can get it on the computer trying to show me how on their phones…. Who’s idea in Marketing was this anyway ? BAD IDEA ! Sorry, not everyone likes playing on a phone all the time especially those who don’t have them.

    I, too, agree with most of the complaints!! I can’t afford an expensive phone, and I always try to shop sales, and take advantage of the best deals. I think it is really unfair, as well as bordering on discrimination, that people who can’t afford an expensive phone are excluded from the sales!! We, too need to save money!! Really not a well thought out app!! Need to redo and make it accessible for EVERYONE!!

    Its brings up my store in zip code 97128 in the app and had the just for u available to use. Yet my store doesn’t use the program. No tags in the store or option to enter phone number at check out. Very upset i spent all that time to use it and gather discounts and not be able to use it. I could of saved and planned on that but that was not three outcome. Ended up paying more than i budgeted. Very upset and unhappy.

    What happened to us getting the desktop app for this on October 17?????? I just tried to find it and add it and guess what?!?! It’s nowhere to be found!!! I’ve been counting on it to be able to save money and NOT have to shop at Walmart all the time. So much for that!! Walmart here I come!

    I didn’t read all the comments, so this may already be covered. I am a senior citizen, have been shopping at Albertsons for years. I am not in possession of a smart phone, nor do I see myself having one in the forseeable future. This ‘justforU’ program kinda leaves me in the dust. I feel left out. I do have a laptop, but downloading an ‘app’ to it is not possible. You need to modify(expand?) the program so people of my age are included.

    Is the app working. It says it can’t find the Albertsons location. I am only 1/2 mile away. The add say to download the app. I use it because it cant find it. zip is 97006

    I have read the previous comments starting in August. Surely your computer-marketing jocks have had plenty of time to make just-for-u available for laptops. 3 months? Come on! You are missing out on many who customers who rightfully feel ignored and are shopping elsewhere.

    Have the Safeway app….having trouble getting the Albertsons one…am disappointed that gas points do not combine…if you’re allowing use at Safeway Gas Station, how do we handle that at the pump? Have been really disappointed that newspaper ads are almost identical….I used to shop both stores and have trouble telling the difference now….

    What a disappointment the just 4 u program is! I would estimate that at least half the digital coupons I load do not come off at check-out. You cannot see during check out if the coupons are coming off properly because none of them come off until the very end and then they go by on the screen at the speed of light! Trying to get customer service to fix it after the fact is a nightmare and so time consuming – who has time for that? Isn’t this supposed to be easier than paper coupons? To those of you who are bummed out because you don’t have smart phones and cannot use this, don’t be too sad! It doesn’t work anyway!

    Just 4 U seems to have a crossover between Albertsons and Safeway. Some of my selections showed up on both.
    I am wondering if I earn gas points at Safeway will they be combined with the gas points at Albertsons if I switch between stores. Right now I drive across town to shop at Safeway but there is an Albertsons near my house that would be easier to use.

To be sure, change the location on your Just for U before you shop, the ones that are not eligible for that particular store will not show on your list, however, they will still be on your card for when you shop at the other store.     Not real happy with this program. I don’t have a smart phone and need to “add” savings to my account via computer. Even when I remember to do this prior to shopping, the savings don’t always show up and I have to double-check the receipt against what I added.

    So, to summarize: good old days: get card, swipe card for savings, done. Every time.

    Bad new days: register for account; log into account (want to shop when internet’s down? tough); scan hundreds of offers to find the ones I want to add; shop; check receipt to be sure all savings were actually applied; go back to store with printed list of savings and receipt to “prove” not all savings were obtained. Next week? Do it all over again.

    My dissatisfaction comes from the fact that there is no longer a card one can simply swipe at checkout. It is not a question of any one store; it is the entire process. What about people who don’t have/can’t afford smart phones or computers??

    The fact that I don’t always get all savings I add is merely collateral damage in a process that went from simple to inefficient. Also, as Betsie noted (05/04/2017), once the gas rewards are not properly credited in the “system” … they’re pretty much gone without jumping through even more hoops to recover them.

    I think I’ll find another store while you guys get your act together. I like the rotisserie chicken, and the only way to get the discount price is Just for U app, don’t like it, don’t care for it. As many have stated if you don’t have the “correct” phone you don’t get a discount.
    And the flyer I looked thru today to shop at your store doesn’t have any coupon, it’s promoting the app only. There are people who don’t like polluting their phones I’m one of them, nor do I like giving out personal info unless absolutely necessary.

    Not right at all. It’s been great at your store, unfortunately I’ll be looking elsewhere for now, maybe I’ll check back later to find out if you’ve fixed this problem.

    I have several comments on the just for u program:

    (1) Albertsons made a big marketing deal a few years ago when it eliminated the need to use the older user cards which you had to register for and then scan at the register, indicating that now everyone could benefit from the store specials with no need for registering. Now its back to the registration in order to get these specials. Seems like a step backwards. Why not just give these specials to all customers?

    (2) The search capability is somewhat user non-friendly. EG there was a special on rotisserie chicken and so I tried to do a search for this by entering Chicken, Roasted Chicken and even Rotisserie Chicken – all of which failed. To find with the search I had to enter: Signature Cafe. Same problem with pasta – to find the American Beauty pasta I could’t just do a search on pasta.

    (3) I do not understand why these specials have to be “added” to my account by selecting them in the app in order to get these discounts! The FAQ says that this is because they want to establish purchase patterns in order to customize offers to customers based on their actual usage. But if you have registered, enter your phone number and then scan an item that is on the just for u special list why can’t the computer figure out that you have purchased the special item and give the discount??

    I have been using the Safeway app for a while now and was excited to get the Albertsons app. I have both stores nearby and shop at them nearly equally. Prices can be different for the same items. However, it appears that I cannot use the apps together with separate stores. If I open the Albertsons app, it changes my store to the Safeway store, and vice versa. Is there not a way to keep the Albertsons store in the Albertsons app and the Safeway store in the Safeway app? I’d really like to be able to use them both.

    Elderly customers usually don’t have Iphones or computers, but they desperately need savings on groceries due to very low income. It seem like these customers are being forgotten in lieu of those who can afford the technical gadgets. Do you feel this population spends more at your store so therefore they get the discounts? We seniors spend a large percentage of our income on groceries! We also tend to be loyal to a particular store that gives us best value.

    I think the just for you program is discrimination at its finest. There are plenty of lower income families and non-technology friendly seniors out there who are unable to take advantage of the just for you only savings. These are the people in our communities who need these savings the most. Just this week you have free eggs and $.99 pineapples that can be redeemed with the app alone. Do you not think the seniors in the communities you service, who live on a fixed income, and do not understand this app based world we live in, could use these deals. These are your customers too.Maybe you should also concern yourselves with providing the same level of service to them. They deserve at least that.

    I spent 37 years in the retail business with 3 different companies and had to deal with corporate HQ people who had never dealt directly with customers. At every company they had the opinion that they knew better than anyone, especially those who had to deal directly with the customer at the store level. I ended my career in the top management at corporate HQ and had fight constantly with those there with out customer contact experience. I am not at all surprised that Albertsons tech and management people are of the same breed. And I am not at all surprised that the top corporate execs. even approved of this marketing fiasco. Wise up people! Before you run out a new marketing scheme, get input from the people who have to deal with the customer every day at the store level, then do a test market with follow-up reviews to see what problems you have created.

    Have been enjoying Safeway Just for U for the last few years. Just moved to WA state, and really like the ability to use Gas Rewards at Chevron. I can shop Sageway, Albertsons or another competitor in Gig Harbor, but now I see Albertson’s Just for U isn’t integrated with Safeway’s program of the same name, even though they are both part of the same corporate parent. That makes absolutely no sense, as why would I split my spend and ability to earn points toward the same reward. Was going to try Albertsons tomorrow, but this means I’m just going to head down the road to Safeway.

    Today’s Phoenix newspaper includes an Albertson’s ad featuring Just for U items that do not appear anywhere when I access Just for U sale items on your website. For example: Case of water for $.99 and a bag of Clementines for $2.77. I sincerely hope Albertson’s is not denying these bargains from all of their loyal customers just because these customers do not have a cell phone. (This would be a horrendous marketing mistake). How can I add these sale items to my account?

    What I have done in the past when I had an old phone and could not scan the offers, I would take the offer tag off the shelf and take it with me up to the cashiers. Made sure that they scanned it for me. They were usually upset but as you have all explained and I explained each time, As soon as you make this available to everyone I really have no choice but to bring these to you to make sure I receive the discounts. They would complain that someone would have to put all these tags back and I would say, “it’s a good thing they got paid by the hour and maybe it will speed things up to make this available to everyone.” Obviously, this hasn’t had much impact but maybe if enough customers did this they would put a little more effort into changing the system for every customer. It’s just good business!!

    I am very disappointed that I can not get the just for u deals on my computer. I always used it at Safeway and I feel you are missing a lot of sells by not having it available for laptop users. I certainly hope you will make a change in the near future. I shop at Albertsons every week and hate missing out on the specials.

    It is pointless for me to receive emails giving me exclusive deals that when I click on an item to add it takes me to a page that says….We’re sorry, Just for U is currently unavailable in your store. Registered users will be notified by email when the program becomes available for your currently selected store. I have been using Just for U for over 2 weeks at my ‘currently’ selected store. It works fine on my phone but I would like to be able to use my computer as well to choose coupons

When you click the link from your email, it may have the wrong store selected in the top center of the screen as our website chooses one at default. It will not sync to your preferred store unless your web browser acknowledges that you are signed in. If your mobile app is functioning correctly at the store you normally shop at, we recommend ensuring your signed in and double checking that home store in the top center of the screen.     My home store is correct at the center of the screen and hasn’t changed in all the time I have used the computer. I am also signed in. It still says that Just for U is not currently available for this store.

    I think it’s unfair to create a program, that some of your customer can use, and other cannot…Please Rethink this program and open it to all customer, who want and/or need to participate

    This way of marketing is totally prejudiced against the poor. What about all the people who can’t afford or just don’t wish to have a phone that goes online. Many of these individuals also don’t have access to a computer. Advertisement for these online deals is included in the regular ad paper that is mailed to everyone and can be misleading to some people.
