Jun 1st, 2016
Are you in the moo-d to embrace National Dairy Month?
National Dairy Month is a way for us to join together and create awareness about the many benefits that dairy offers! According to the International Dairy Foods Association or IFDA, dairy products contain nine essential nutrients, ranging from calcium to potassium. It started out as National Milk Month in 1937, but changed to National Dairy Month when the National Dairy Council got involved. After all, dairy pertains to a variety of products including cheese, yogurt, and ice cream.
Local dairy farms are an important part of our communities. According to the USDA, 97% of dairy farms in the United States are family owned and operated. In fact, you can find at least one dairy farm in each of the 50 states. Dairy can impact the local economy too. Dairy farms, milk production, and product manufacturing provides nearly 230,000 jobs throughout the country. While dairy farms require a lot of water to operate, most dairy farmers are able to recycle water at an average of 3 to 5 times.
Albertsons is celebrating Dairy Month with special offers on dairy products throughout the store. To find out what’s on sale at your local store, click here.
