Oregon Heritage Farms
Oct 27th, 2015
Oregon Heritage Farms has been in the apple business for over 25 years! The family-run farm is located just outside of Portland in Hillsboro, Ore. It started in the late 1970’s when Phil McLennan and his son, Robert, planted a few apple trees as a weekend hobby. Their love of apples blossomed and the business has grown into a 250-acre apple production. Robert now runs the day-to-day farm operations, though Phil is still actively involved. Robert’s daughter, Chelsea, runs operations management and her husband, Robbie, does the inventory.
Today, Jonagold, HoneyCrisp, Gala and Granny Smith apples are all harvested and shipped fresh, straight from the field to stores.
The McLennan family’s favorite apple recipe is applesauce. It’s simple, quick and versatile. Just follow the directions below and add the seasonings of your choice for the perfect applesauce. The secret to the perfect sauce is using farm-fresh apples!
Oregon Heritage Farms Applesauce
- Gather your apples of choice (Jonagold is the McLennan family’s favorite apple and the perfect choice for appleasauce)
- Core and peel all the apples
- Bake down in water until it’s the consistency prefered
- Blend, mash or send the apples straight to the freezer, or can them!
