Plastic Bag Recycling Challenge Winners!

From October 11, 2012  through November 11,  2012, YOU helped your local AZ, NM, CO and El Paso, TX Albertsons with the inaugural Plastic Bag Recycling Challenge!

The results are in and thanks to the 35 schools that participated, we successfully kept over 2,800 pounds of plastic out of landfills.  Below are our Top 5 from each district (in the event that a district did not have 5 schools complete the challenge, all schools are listed).

Program Overview:

  • Schools were extended an invitation to participate in the Plastic Bag Recycling Challenge via email or US Mail (you can let your favorite schools know about it, too!)
  • Schools enrolled by visiting the Challenge Page on our website and emailing with their contact info:
  • Schools tracked the pounds of bags collected during the promotional period —  October 11th through Nov 11th – America Recycles Day.
  • At the end of the promotion period, schools collected their bags and took them to their partner store with their tally sheet of the total weight of bags collected.
  • Schools turned their bags into an Albertsons store and emailed their results to to collect their participation gift card.  The winning schools were announced November 20th.

Award Structure:

  • $1,000 per district:
    • $500 gift card – 1st Place
    • $250 gift card – 2nd Place
    • $150 gift card – 3rd Place
    • $50 gift card – 4th and 5th Place
  • $4,000 in $10 gift cards to the first 400 schools that turn in their bags by the Nov 16th deadline.

We will call and email the winning schools via the information that’s been provided on November 20th.

How are the areas defined?

Our Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico and El Paso, Texas stores (104 in all) are divided into six districts. If you’re curious about which cities are in your district, just email for info.
