Fresh Peach Ice Cream

DIRECTIONS
In a heavy saucepan, combine the cream, milk, egg yolks, 1/2 cup of the sugar and the vanilla. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly with a wooden spoon all around the bottom. Bring the mixture almost, but not quite, to the boil. It should be smooth and custardlike; the correct temperature is 180°F.
Pour the custard into a cold mixing bowl, which will prevent further cooking. Let stand until room temperature.
Add the remaining 1/2 cup sugar to the peaches and stir to dissolve.
Stir the peaches into the custard and pour the mixture into the container of an ice cream freezer. Freeze according to manufacturer's instructions.
