Baked Ham with Syrup

DIRECTIONS
Soak the ham in hot water for 1/2 hour, then clean it with a brush.
Place the ham in a bowl inside a steamer, cover with water, and steam for 1 hour. When the ham cools, discard the skin and cut into 1-inch x 2-1/8-inch pieces.
Put the ham into a clean bowl inside the steamer, and add 3 tablespoons of the sugar and 1/2 cup water. Steam for 1 hour. Drain, return to the bowl with another 3 tablespoons of sugar and 1/2 cup water, and steam for 1/2 hour.
Drain the ham, rinse the bowl, and place the ham, candied lotus seeds, remaining sugar, and 1/2 cup water in it and steam for 20 minutes. Place on a warm plate and serve with steamed bread.
