Baked Roast Pork Buns

  • Preheat the oven to 375°. Mix 2-1/2 cups flour, 3/4 cup water, and 1/2 cup lard or solid shortening and knead for 3 minutes. This is the water-flour dough.
  • Then mix 2 cups all-purpose flour and 1/3 cup lard or solid shortening and knead for 3 minutes. Divide each dough mixture into 24 pieces. Roll or press each water-flour dough piece into a 3-inch circle. Press a piece of the flour shortening mixture on top of it.
  • To make the filling bring the water to boil in a wok or saucepan and add the other ingredients. When slightly thickened, remove from the heat and cool enough to handle.
  • Place the filling in the center of each combination dough circle and wrap. Pinch securely closed. Place the buns on a cookie sheet with the rounded side up. Brush with the slightly beaten egg yolk. Bake for 10 - 12 minutes, or until golden brown. Serve hot.
