DIRECTIONS

  • For The French Toast: In a medium bowl, use a wire whisk to beat together the egg whites, eggs, milk, 1-1/2 tsp brown sugar and vanilla.
  • Pour half the egg mixture into an 8" x 8" baking pan or plastic container. Then place the bread slices in the pan in a single layer. Pour the remaining egg mixture on top. Cover and refrigerate for 3 to 8 hours.
  • Preheat the oven to 350°. Coat an 8" x 8" baking dish or shallow casserole with no-stick spray and set aside.
  • For The Praline Topping: Meanwhile, in a small saucepan, stir together the 1/4 cup brown sugar, syrup and butter. Heat until the butter is melted. Stir in the pecans. Then spread the mixture on the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
  • Carefully transfer the soaked bread slices to the baking dish, placing them on top of the nut mixture in a single layer. Pour any of the remaining egg mixture over the bread.
  • Bake for 30 to 35 minutes or until set and very lightly browned. Let stand about 10 minutes before cutting. Cut into pieces to serve.
