Apple Souffle Salad

Dissolve gelatin in boiling water. Add cold water, lemon juice, salt, and mayonnaise; blend well with a rotary beater. Pour into an ice-cube tray and chill in the freezer for 15 to 20 minutes.

Turn the partly frozen mixture into a bowl and whip until light and fluffy. Fold in apples, celery, grapes, and walnuts; pour into a 1-quart mold or 6 individual molds. Chill until firm.

Garnish the salad with frosted grapes and apple slices, if desired. To prepare frosted grapes and apple slices, dip fruit into beaten egg white, roll in sugar, and chill.
