  • Chop the tomatoes, apples, and onions; put them into a large strainer or colander and drain off about 2 cups liquid. Discard the liquid.
  • Meanwhile, heat the vinegar, sugar, spices, and salt together in a large saucepan. Cook until liquid boils vigorously. Remove from heat; add the chopped mixture. Return to a boil. Reduce heat and cook slowly for 10 minutes, stirring frequently.
