DIRECTIONS
Preheat the oven to 450°F.
Choose a board that will fit into your oven, wet it on both sides, then shake off the excess water. Put a piece of brown paper on top of the board. Place the cake on it.
Put the egg whites and cream of tartar in a bowl and beat until foamy. Slowly add the sugar and continue to beat until stiff but not dry.
Cut the ice cream in slices to cover the cake, leaving a 1/2-inch rim all around. Cover completely with the meringue. Lightly brown in the oven for about 5 minutes. Serve at once.
