DIRECTIONS
Cook apples in water to make applesauce. Add 3/4 cup sugar; set aside.
Mix bread crumbs with 2 tablespoons sugar. Melt butter in a heavy skillet. Add crumbs and cook, stirring until browned and crisp; cool.
Spread a layer of crumbs in the bottom of a serving dish. Cover with a layer of applesauce. Repeat layers until all is used, ending with a layer of bread crumbs. Chill.
Cover the top of the cake with whipped cream, and dab with jelly. Use any remaining whipped cream to top individual servings.
