Old-Fashioned Baked Beans

DIRECTIONS
Pick through and discard any broken beans and rinse them. Add the beans slowly to the boiling water. Reduce the heat to a simmer and cook for 2 to 3 hours, or until tender.
Heat a small skillet. Add the oil and onion and sauté. Add to the beans after the beans are cooked.
Add all other ingredients after the beans are tender. Simmer the beans 5 to 10 minutes, until desired thickness is reached. This is much faster than baking in the oven.
The beans may be pressure cooked. Then add other ingredients and simmer a few minutes.
