Stuff The Bus Food Drive
Dec 9th, 2015
This year marked the 8th annual Stuff The Bus Food Drive in San Diego, CA. Albertsons, Vons, the San Diego Food Bank, MTS, Girl Scouts of San Diego and the Armed Services YMCA all partnered to support the local community and fight hunger.
San Diego County residents were encouraged to stop by their local Albertsons store to help fight hunger by donating non-perishable items for a week (Monday, Nov.30 – Sunday, Dec.6).
The main food drive event took place on Saturday Dec. 5th, with nearly 800 Girl Scout volunteers and 69 stores participated. The Girl Scout volunteers drove additional donations from generous customers to stuff the 15 MTS and NTCD buses that were present at various store locations. This resulted in a total of 15,115 pounds food donation on Saturday alone that will provide approximately 12,596 meals to local individuals and family in need this holiday season. As the food drive came to an end the buses made their way to the Food Bank’s warehouse in Miramar, where active-duty military personnel volunteered to help unload after the buses delivered the food donations.
The 8th Annual Stuff the Bus Food Drive saw an overwhelming amount of donations with a total of 17,620 pounds donated, the equivalent to about 14,683 meals, making this year the best one yet. We are proud to be part of a community that comes together in times of need and we are thankful to be able to support such a great cause.
