Surprising Finale to the 2015 School Supply Drive

Back to School season is an exciting time for children in the Treasure Valley. It’s a time for kids to reunite with friends, begin new classes and school activities, seek out fun adventures, and of course, go Back to School shopping. Unfortunately, not every child has the ability to stock up a backpack with necessary school supplies as the new school year rolls around. That’s why we called on the community to help local families in need.

Albertsons partnered with Family Advocates and 100.3 The X to make this year’s School Supply Drive bigger and better than ever – and it was just that. We asked shoppers to look for the School Supply Drive shopping cart in all Treasure Valley Albertsons stores and drop off new, unused school supply items (e.g. backpacks, binders, folders, notebooks, pen, pencils, calculators and more.). The end result was cartloads of school supplies for children that otherwise wouldn’t have had the necessary items to begin the school year.

Representatives from Family Advocates arrived to a huge surprise at the 36th and State St. store last week. Not only did they receive all of the generous donations from the community, but additional school supplies were donated directly from office supply vendors, along with a $1,000 check from Albertsons.

“When you’re quickly uprooted from your home and then move to a foster care home and, perhaps, to a new school, you may have left your backpack behind,” said Diane Demarest, Director of Family Advocates. “This way we can get right in there and help a child who is in a new and challenging situation,” she added.

Thank you, Treasure Valley, for allowing more children to have the back to school experience they deserve.
