Announcement from Shane Sampson – Marketing and Merchandising Leadership

Teams,

Since the last announcement in September, we have spent a great deal of time meeting with marketing, merchandising and pharmacy staff in both companies to select the best team for us to support our divisions and stores going forward. We’ve truly enjoyed getting to know everyone, and we can’t wait to see what we can do with such a fantastic group of people engaged in serving our stores and customers.

We’re fortunate to have significant bench strength on our companies’ teams. We have a wealth of people with extensive experience, proven results, and high levels of technical expertise. We’re excited to announce the following leadership appointments, which will become effective upon completion of the merger transaction, pending customary regulatory approvals.

Karl Schroeder – Senior Vice President of Corporate Merchandising. Karl has been with Safeway for 38 years and is currently running Safeway’s Northern California Division. He began his career as a part-time clerk in Arizona, and held positions of increasing responsibility in several functions and areas of the country including Arizona, Southern and Northern California, Hawaii, and the Eastern Division. Karl holds a BA in Organizational Leadership and Development from the University of San Francisco.

Dimitri Haloulos – Senior Vice President, Own Brands. Dimitri has been with Safeway for 3 years and is currently Group Vice President of Shopper Marketing. Prior to Safeway, Dimitri spent 7 years at Procter and Gamble in market research and marketing roles in the sales organization, oral care, and global household care. Dimitri graduated with BS in International Relations from West Point, served as an officer in the US Army for six years, and holds a MBA from Indiana University.

Darren Singer – Senior Vice President Corporate Pharmacy, Health & Wellness. Darren brings over three decades of business experience to his role, the last 4 years with Safeway as Senior Vice President Pharmacy, Health & Wellness. Darren began his retail grocery career as a Customer Service Clerk in NJ. After graduating from Rutgers, Darren worked for two elite ad agencies, and in 1985, Darren joined Glaxo, Smith, Kline, where he spent the next 26-years leading Oral Care, OTC and Pharmaceutical Business Units in North America in Vice President/General Manager and President roles.

Tamara Pattison – Group Vice President, Loyalty & Analytics. Tamara has been with Safeway for 8 years and is currently Vice President, Loyalty Product Management. Tamara plays a key role in the development, management and execution of integrated consumer campaigns including online, mobile and in-store execution elements. She has 21 years product development experience, and prior to Safeway has worked in the tech industry at companies such as Yahoo, Cairo.com, DemandTec Corporation and Allegis Corporation. Tamara has a B.S. in Business Administration with emphasis in Management Information Systems and Production Operations Management from California State University, Chico.

Dan Salemi – Group Vice President of Pharmacy Services reporting to Darren Singer.   Dan has been with Albertsons for 34 years and is currently President of the Pharmacy Division. Dan began his pharmacy career with Osco Drug. He has held numerous leadership positions in Pharmacy including Vice President of Procurement, Vice President of Managed Care, and Vice President of Pharmacy Services. Dan assumed the role of President of the Pharmacy Division in 2013.

Creighton Schenkel – Group Vice President of Merchandising Analytics and Marketing Finance. Creighton has been with Safeway for 4 years and is currently the Vice President of Corporate Strategic Initiatives. Creighton was previously a Principal at The Boston Consulting Group, and began his career with GE Capital, completing their Financial Management Program. He holds an MBA from University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School and a BS from the University of Virginia.

George Dordevic – Vice President, Advertising. George has been with Safeway for a total of 34 years and is currently Vice President, Advertising where he leads the effort of translating core business strategies into compelling consumer communication campaigns. George started his career with Safeway in Canada as a retail employee and has held positions of increasing responsibility in the Marketing and Advertising organization for the last 22 years. George holds a BS from the University of Alberta.

Deb Fifles – Vice President Consumer & Shopper Insights. Deb is currently Vice President Consumer & Shopper Insights at Safeway, a department she established 8 years ago. She has led her team in the development and socialization of custom research with an emphasis on understanding the drivers of shopper loyalty, satisfaction, price/value, quality/fresh, and shopping experience perceptions. She has 27 years of research and insight experience, and prior to Safeway held research positions at Information Resources Inc., The Clorox Company, Golden Grain/Quaker Oats, and Del Monte Foods.

Amy Kirby – Vice President of In-Store Experience. Amy has been with Albertsons for 16 years and is currently the Vice President of Marketing for Albertsons LLC/NAI. Her marketing career began in the Rocky Mountain Division of Albertsons, and went on to join Ivie and Associates Marketing Agency as the Senior Director of Marketing, overseeing Division Marketing Directors when Albertson’s LLC was formed in 2006. Amy most recently held the position of Vice President of Marketing overseeing all Marketing efforts, including assisting each new Division with putting their localized marketing programs together.

Mike McCready – Vice President of E-Commerce. Mike has been with Safeway for 13 years and is currently the Vice President of E-Commerce. He joined the company in 2001 in corporate finance working on various corporate development projects until his promotion to Vice President of E-Commerce in 2007. In this role as Mike has been responsible for strategy development, process improvement and driving sales growth in each operating area. Prior to joining Safeway, he held positions in investment banking and asset management and earned a BS in Finance from Boston College and an MBA from Columbia University.

Karl Meinhardt – Vice President of Digital Marketing & Social Media. Karl is currently the Vice President of Social / Digital Marketing at Albertsons LLC and oversees all aspects of digital and social strategy, shopper marketing, and digital customer engagement. Having built the team from scratch, he has lead the team to award winning social engagement programs, nominations for innovation and a reputation in the CPG vendor community as a the “go to” team for leading edge customer experiences. Karl is a graduate of California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. He holds a Summa Cum Laude Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Mathematics.

Jerry Noland – Vice President of Food Safety and Quality Assurance. Jerry has been with Safeway for 10 years and is currently the Group Vice President of Quality Assurance & Consumer Protection where he oversees all quality assurance and food safety efforts. Before joining Safeway, Jerry was the Vice President of Quality Assurance and Food Safety for Fresh Express. He has held food safety and scientific positions with Worthington Foods, Dole Food Company, Matrix Essentials and IsoLab, Inc.   His educational background includes a BS Degree in Microbiology from the Ohio State University and a Master of Science in Administration from Central Michigan University.

Reporting to Karl Schroeder:

John Beretta – Group Vice President of Meat & Seafood. John has been a Safeway associate for more than 33 years. John has been Vice President of Seafood, Marketing Planning, Perishables, and Deli/Starbucks. Over the last 2 years, John has been the Senior Vice President for Meat, Seafood, Deli/Food Service, Starbucks & Bakery.

Jerry Callahan – Group Vice President of Produce and Floral. Jerry has been with Albertsons for 33 years and is currently Vice President of Produce and Floral. Jerry began his grocery career with Albertsons as a produce clerk and has held several leadership roles including Produce and Floral Sales Manager.

Pat Dennis – Group Vice President of GM/HBC. Pat has been with Albertsons for 34 years and has led GM/HBC function for Center Store since 2012. Pat has also managed the GM/HBC function in Southern California, Northern California Dallas/Fort Worth.

Bob Heally – Group Vice President Deli/Prepared Foods. Bob has been with Safeway for 30 years and is currently the Corporate Vice President of Deli Food Service & Branded Concepts. Bob began his career with Safeway as a Deli Clerk and has held various positions including Director of Sales & Marketing, Regional Director, Group Director and Vice President of Perishable Merchandising.

Jewel Hunt – Group Vice President of Bakery. Jewel Hunt began her 33 year career with Safeway as a bakery sales clerk and checker. Her former roles include Vice President of Bakery and Vice President Deli Food Service. Jewel has most recently served as Group Vice President Pharmacy Health and Wellness

Mike Massimino – Group Vice President of Grocery/Total Alcohol Beverage. Mike has nearly 40 years of experience at Albertson’s LLC. Most recently Mike held the position of Senior Vice President, Marketing & Merchandising, responsible for leading Albertsons national marketing and merchandising strategy and vendor partnership development. His previous leadership roles have included Group Vice President Center Store and Vice President GM/HBC and Merchandising Execution.

As Bob and Robert mentioned in their joint email, today also marks the beginning of Phase 3. We expect that several positions for Phase 3 will be posted in the next few days and encourage anyone interested in applying to do so. Posted jobs can be viewed using the process each company established in Phase 2. We do not currently have an expected end date for Phase 3; some positions may not be filled until after the close of the transaction. We will keep you informed as to the status as and when we can; each division will be progressing in the integration process at a different rate. We recommend that you continue to monitor our job postings for positions that you may be qualified for.
