The community gathered in downtown Boise Saturday morning, Nov. 7, to recognize sacrifices and honor the service of all military veterans during an annual Veteran’s Day Parade. One military family was invited to enjoy the parade after a VIP breakfast. To their surprise, Eckrich, Operation Homefront and Albertsons had been planning something special behind the scenes.

As the parade progressed, a brand new SUV pulled up with Boise State legend, Ian Johnson. Johnson then presented the vehicle to the Watson family.

“Eckrich is proud to honor military families across the country,” said Chuck Gitkin, Senior Vice President, Marketing, Smithfield Foods. “We are grateful that Albertsons and Ian share our passion for giving back to such deserving families. On behalf of Eckrich, we are pleased to provide the Watson family with a new SUV in appreciation for their sacrifice.”

The gift of a new SUV is part of the ongoing campaign by Eckrich to honor, thank and support military families through its partnership with Operation Homefront, whose mission is to build strong, stable and secure military families. Eckrich, in its fourth year of partnership with Operation Homefront, has surpassed $1 million in donations since 2012.

Jannette Watson is currently a member of the U.S. Army Reserve. She was injured during combat medic training in Texas and is still undergoing treatment. Jannette owns a small farm in Boise alongside her husband Richard and their four children.

The Boise Veterans Day Parade Committee plans, organizes, and conducts a Veterans Day Parade in Boise, Idaho, annually on the first Saturday before November 11. This event recognizes the sacrifices, with honor, the service of all Armed Forces veterans of the US, and strives to heighten community understanding and appreciation of military service to the nation.

This is a significant thing for our military veterans and an honorable gift. This made the parade the best ever in its proud history for Treasure Valley.

    Thank you…Walt
