Wine and Cheese: Find the Perfect Pairings
Dec 16th, 2015
Looking for the perfect complement to your favorite holiday drinks? A cheeseboard is the perfect holiday appetizer because you can customize it to fit your taste, style and event. Pair with your favorite seasonal fruits, vegetables, jams, crackers, nuts, breads and your favorite drinks for an Instagram-worthy board. Finding the perfect pairing can seem daunting, but we have some simple tips to help you find the perfect wine and cheese match.
Cabernet Sauvignon: A full-bodied Cabernet Sauvignon pairs perfectly with hard cheeses, like cheddar. This versatile wine also pairs well with goat cheese, sharp cheese, hard salami and prosciutto.
Pinot Noir: The luscious, rich fruit flavor of Pinot Noir pairs well with softer cheeses, like Brie and Havarti. Also try serving this wine with apricots or cranberries to complement the rich fruit flavor of the wine. Avoid pairing Pinot Noir with garlic, so avoid garlic stuffed olives when drinking a Pinot Noir.
If you prefer a dry Pinot Noir, it will complement cheeses like gorgonzola and asiago best.
Sweeten Up: Sweet wines help balance the saltiness in certain cheeses and snacks. A dessert wine, like a Moscato d’Asti, will work well with salty cheeses such as bleu cheese, aged gouda or feta.
