Changing Lives for Good

Disaster Relief

For over four decades, Albertsons has had stores throughout the South.  We’ve weathered the storms, literally and figuratively, as much as our neighbors there have. We pride ourselves on being able to help our neighbors all we can whenever we can when storms strike because they affect us, too.

Even the best meteorologists wouldn’t have been able to predict the strength of the storm that tore through North Texas this week. It hit us close to home, because our offices in Texas are based in Fort Worth. CBS called it the deadliest tornado outbreak in over 30 years. The National Weather Service estimates that at least sixteen separate tornadoes touched down, and that winds were over 200 miles per hour – conditions which can make a storm shelters necessary just to survive.  When you couple the storm with the plant explosion in West, Texas just a few weeks ago, one on top of the other almost seems unbelievable.

But every time something nearly unbelievable happens, our hearts are warmed and we are humbled by the generosity of our customers.  Through our partners at CBS-DFW and some fantastic local organizations, we’ve been able to help our customers extend their helping hands toward those in need via The Salvation Army’s disaster relief fund. Now through the first part of June, at any Albertsons Market in AZ, CO, FL, LA, NM, and TX, customers can make a donation toward that effort as they’re checking out with their groceries.

Over the last 3 years, our customers and associates have given over $300,000 in just disaster relief from similar campaigns. Just the explosion in West raised over $76,000 of that total, and we’re using additional disaster relief funds so that our donation will be $100,000.

We’re grateful to have such generous people in our midst who want to help.  When we enact these campaigns, we all help change lives. So to all of our customers, associates and vendors who open their hearts toward these programs and help us help others, please accept our thanks.
