Dietz & Watson is a company that Albertsons has had the pleasure of working with, and because March 3 is National Cold Cuts Day, we thought it would be a perfect opportunity to highlight this Mom and Pop brand, and why we love them so much!

When Gottlieb Dietz founded our company in 1939, he set out to produce the tastiest deli meats in the Philadelphia area. Today, Dietz & Watson is one of the largest preparers of premium deli meats and artisan cheeses, offering more than 400 products at the finest supermarkets and neighborhood delis throughout the United States and the world. But they may be most proud of what hasn’t changed: after 75 years, Dietz & Watson is still a family owned and operated business, now in its fourth generation. They are still pioneers and innovators, constantly pursuing even more healthy recipes to suit a wide range of dietary needs.     Why have all Albertsons and (Safeway same store now) quit carrying dietz and Watson roasted garlic cheddar cheese in their deli sections. They say that they can’t get the 5 pound blocks any more. I talked to someone on the phone at dietz and Watson and they gave me the name of the distributor here in Washington state and said it was available there. At the Albert and Safe stores now they do have the roasted garlic cheddar in a pre sliced pack that is twice the price per pound and tastes like crap. Too thin, vacume packed product become mashed together, not the same at all. I think its all about some genious with a college edumacation deciding that it would be more profitable to sell people a inferior product. Whats the real story ?!
