Albertsons executives breaking ground at a new store

Since 2013, we have remodeled every Albertsons store in the Treasure Valley to create an exceptional, modern shopping experience for customers. Now, we are excited to begin building a new flagship store to replace our current store at Broadway & Beacon in Boise, Idaho.

To learn more, here’s a quick Q & A with Intermountain Division President, Brad Street:

Q: How long has it been since Albertsons built a brand new store in the Treasure Valley?

A: The last new store in the area was built in 1999, so we are long overdue.

Q: What will make this store different from others in the area?

A: This store will be a destination for foodies; a place of food exploration, adventure and education— unlike anything this market has seen.

Q: Can you give us any hints on what we can expect to see?

A: Well, I can’t give away all the secrets, but think fresh, natural, local and organic. This store will have an expanded selection of hot, ready-to-eat meals, expanded fresh-cut fruits and vegetables, scratch bakery, indoor and outdoor dining so you can enjoy your meals right here.

Q: When can we expect this new store to be completed?

A: We are planning to Grand Open this new store by summer of 2018.

Q: What does this mean for job growth in the Treasure Valley?

A: We’re proud of the hundreds of jobs that this store will eventually provide, and we’re proud to use Idaho-based companies like The Land Group and CSHQA Design to help build it. It’s going to take hundreds of skilled, talented workers to bring this store to fruition – and I’m so proud that we’re able to build this store in the heart of Boise.

Q: Can you tell us about the donation that was made during the groundbreaking ceremony today?

A: Albertsons has a great partnership with Boise State University. And as we were talking about building a new store right here next to the university— which will be the favorite local grocery store to many college students—  it was important to us to give back to our local community, a philosophy Joe Albertsons started many years ago.  Today, we donated $10,000 to Boise State’s Club Sports programs which will help foster a positive campus for students. Not only that, but we were lucky enough to have Dr. Bob Kustra, President of Boise State, here with us this morning to accept the donation. And it was pretty cool that Coach Rice and Coach Harsin were able to join us, as well. They all grabbed a shovel and helped us break the official ground for this new store.

Q: We have heard the rumors. Can you tell us, are they true? Are there some additional projects in the works for Albertsons?

A: Yes! Our chairman and CEO, Bob Miller, just announced this morning that this is just the beginning of a multi-million dollar investment in the Treasure Valley.  Another store we are really excited about will be located on the corner of Eagle Road and Fairview in the former Shopko location. That project will be one of the largest – if not the largest – grocery stores in the state of Idaho. Between this year and next year, we anticipate we will bring about 400 – 500 new jobs to the Valley and provide customers with the best shopping experience ever.

As you can see, Albertsons has some big plans to bring some amazing stores right here to the Treasure Valley. And if you are interested in not just a job, but starting a career with Albertsons, head to to find out more on how to apply for current store openings.
