Holly’s Summer Survival Tips

The weather is warming up and entertaining moves outside. Summer is casual and there is always extra company, friends and kids around during the summer months making it a hectic time, so here are my go-to feed and please tips for your summer survival:

1. The grill is always a popular summer staple so choose leaner cuts of meat – those that end in ‘loin and round.’

2. Marinate meats in a zip-top plastic bag for easy clean-up. Summer Survival Tips

3. For food safety, recipes that have mayo, do not leave out of the fridge over two hours.

4. Chop and prepare ingredients ahead of time to put together last minute so you are able to enjoy the company as well.

5. Bring your cakes, such as pound cakes, un-iced so that they stack and travel well – and ice at the event for less mess.

6. My favorite kitchen tool has to be the kitchen scissors, great for cutting everything from pizza to salad!

7. Freeze leftover pizza slices and reheat for a make-ahead meal another day.

8. Look for short-cuts in the grocery, from minced garlic in a jar, pre-chopped onion, and shredded carrots for time-savers.

9. Fresh basil makes a difference and is available in any grocery or try growing yourself. Remember dried basil is a ration of 3:1, or 1 tablespoon fresh = 1 teaspoon of dried herbs

10. An easy tip to seed tomatoes – cut the tomato in half from side to side and gently squeeze the tomato to watch seeds easily pop out.
