It's Hatch Chile Time Blog Post

The biggest roasting event of the year is back! The Hatch Chile Roasting event kicks off Saturday, Aug. 12, 2017, in Southern California at select Albertsons stores! Hatch chile aficionados can pick up a 25 lb. sack for just $29.99, roasting included. Considered New Mexico’s premier chile pepper, Hatch chiles are favored across the country in restaurants specializing in spicy Southwestern cuisine.

When picked green, they are called long green Hatch chiles. When ripened, they are known as long red Hatch chiles, and food connoisseurs wait patiently each year for these delicacies! Add a kick to your salsas, sauces, casseroles, stir-fries, enchiladas, soufflés, omelets and just about anything else!

When they (Albertsons or other distributors) say “Cancelled due to Weather” they mean the Weather in Hatch, New Mexico (not local weather) Sometimes excessive weather, (rain, ext.) delays the Chile Harvests in Hatch, NM. This is from a post on July 28, 2017 regarding Hatch Chile harvest “The field we’ve been following will be picked on Monday the 31st for the first time. There has been a bit of delay in the chile harvest due to rain. Some fields received their first harvest before the showers but it seems as the majority are a bit behind”.

Yayy, See you in Palm Desert on Saturday September 2nd, 2017 🙂 It’s worth the drive.

  12. Ann (in San Bernardino) 29/08/2017 at 6:38 pm

Tuesday 08-29-2017 3:28pm (Pacific Standard Time) I called the Palm Desert Store and the Produce employee stated that they will know on Thursday what type of Chile they have received, either Mild, Medium or Hot. Feel free to call either Montebello Phone: 323-888-2250 or Palm Desert Phone: 760-346-2566 & ask for the produce dept. and they will let you know what type of Hatch Chile they received. Ahhhh can’t wait to smell the Chile roasting. It’s the scent of Autumn in New Mexico 🙂 enjoy everyone 🙂
