New Year, New You

New Year’s resolutions have never really been my thing, I come up with a few ridiculous ones, but I never stick to them. Here are a few from previous years:

  • Lose 10 pounds
  • Become a vegan
  • Get a dog
  • Be nicer to my mom (love you mom)
  • Tavel more
  • Go to Yoga EVERYDAY!

This year is going to be different.  A few weeks ago I found a poem my dad had given me before I went to college,  that has now inspired me to think about this upcoming year and take setting New Year’s resolutions a bit more seriously. The poem was written by a Native American Shawnee Chief, Tecumseh called “Live Your Life”, here’s a link to the entire poem, At first, i thought it was another one of those “you can do it” speeches,  but as I kept reading the words took on a new meaning, two sentences in particular:

“Love your life, perfect your life, beautify all things in your life. Seek to make your life long and its purpose in the service of your people.”

I am not sure if  you are planning on making resolutions, but if you do, I challenge you to think about Tecumseh words and what really is important to you in your life. So when the clock strikes midnight, clink that glass, give the biggest kiss you can to your loved ones, and have a happy new year!
