BOISE, Idaho — July 18, 2017 — Safeway Inc., part of Albertsons Companies, announced today that it has entered into an agreement with the United States Department of Justice, the federal Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the United States Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Washington to settle a 2014 investigation into Safeway’s compliance with the Controlled Substances Act. The investigation focused on compliance with record-keeping and reporting requirements related to the theft or significant loss of controlled substances during the period of May 2009 through May 2014. Neither the DEA nor the United States Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Washington is alleging ongoing violations.

As part of the settlement, Safeway will close an in-store pharmacy at 2100 Ralston Avenue in Belmont, CA and will suspend filling prescriptions for controlled substances for four months at a North Bend, WA in-store pharmacy. Safeway remains committed to patient care and will work with patients to ensure that their healthcare needs are met during these transitions.

Safeway cooperated fully with government investigators throughout the investigation and remains an active partner with the DEA, local law enforcement and the communities it serves in the fight against prescription drug abuse, including the abuse of opioids.  Since early 2015, the Company has significantly enhanced its controlled substance monitoring program and implemented a variety of improved policies and procedures to enforce compliance with the Controlled Substances Act.

The invoices are not EDI I have been calling Heather (phone number 623-869-5650) and left a message last week but I still didn’t hear anything back. Hello,
I wish to endorse that Safeway/Albertsons ( I shop mostly at Safeway) should utilize or offer some form of compostable or biodegradable produce bags. In Portland, plastic is not an option for the actual grocery bags, as these were banned recently. I have my own bags that I bring to the store. If I am getting produce I try and re-use the plastic bags that I have. However, I am aware that there are other grocers (specifically Trader Joe’s) that offer biodegradable produce bags. I am motivated to see a great reduction in the disposal of single use plastic. I actual recycle a lot of my plastic film bags at your store. If you needed to even offer up the biodegradable grocery bags at a price (say $.05-.10 per bag) people such as myself would certainly be utilizing these and more than happy to provide you with some small mark up on each bag that we used. Simply add a QR code to each bag and scan it as one checks out. Thank you for your time.
    Regards,
    Eric Hagen

I’m just a customer who likes to feel that the businesses I visit, would like to know when something is not, what it should be.
I’ll first say I seek nothing but an ear, as I don’t get enough at home. Anyway, Signature products are often a 1st choice for both quality and price. I found that Signature Mint Jelly leaves me wanting for Mint. No need to respond just want y’all to know. Thanks for your time. Happy Holidays.
