Long Grain Brown Rice.
Directions Cooking Instructions: Measure 2-1/2 cups of water into a heavy saucepan (at least 2 quart capacity) and bring to a boil. Add a tablespoon of butter or margarine and a teaspoon of salt, if desired. Stir in 1 cup of rice. Cover the saucepan. Lower the heat and simmer 45 minutes or until the rice is tender and all the water is absorbed. Makes about 3 cups of fluffy brown rice. For firmer rice, reduce water by 1/4 cup. Microwave Instructions: Combine 1 cup rice, 2-1/2 cups water, 1 tablespoon butter or margarine, and 1 teaspoon salt (optional). Place in micro-safe dish. Cover and cook on high for 5 minutes or until mixture boils. Reduce to 50% power. Cook 20 minutes. Fluff with a fork and serve. Microwaves may vary. For firmer rice, reduce water by 1/4 cup. To retain vitamins, do not rinse before or drain after cooking.
