FORT WORTH – TCU student Natalie Baugh’s financial situation has upgraded from Baltic Avenue to Park Place, thanks to an Albertson’s promotion.

She picked the winning ticket in the grocery chain’s Monopoly promotional contest, making her the winner of $100,000.

“I work hard for my money and I spend it well,” said Baugh, 23 of Columbus, Texas.

The senior is paying her own way through college. She’s spent the summers waiting tables since she was 15. Baugh had been collecting tickets given to her after every shopping trip at Albertson’s, a part of a promotional Monopoly game. Back in March, she put the winning piece on the board.

“The last one matched, and I kind of just sat there in silence,” she said. “Really not much to it — I was excited, but a lot of silence.” Her winning ticket is one of only six given out across the country.

It took several days before she got the phone call making her win official, and Monday it finally sunk in; seeing the giant check probably helped.

“Of course, I was in shock,” Baugh said. “I really couldn’t believe that I won, so I came up to the store and my hands were shaking.”

The senior is staying focused and said there is no shopping spree in her future. “I’m not just going to blow it on purses and jewelry and typical stuff that a girl would buy,” she said. “I want to pay off my school.”

If I can make a recommendation. Make some of the smaller prizes easier to win. My daughter and I play together after we go shopping. This is our second year and we have not won a single thing other than some extra tickets. I normally do not complain with these kinds of games but it is slightly disheartening to spend that much time doing a game like this to not even when a drink or cookie from the deli. Something that makes playing worth while.
As I said this is just a suggestion from a frequent and long time customer.

Chris, I am in agreement with you about your suggestion of Albertsons making some of the smaller prizes easier to win in the future. I have been playing the monopoly game for the last four years and I’ve never won anything. It would be more meaningful for me to continue playing within the near future, if only I felt that I had a fair chance of at least winning something for a change. I have filled up two game boards and I am stuck with collecting the rare game pieces on each board. I have been shopping at two Albertsons and one Market Street store in the DFW area at least three times a week during the monopoly game contest in hopes for a chance to finally win a “big” prize. I still haven’t won a single thing not even a free soda or even a bag of chips. I do have the rare 105A game piece and I am willing to split the proceeds 50/50 with anymore interested in sharing the $1,000,000 cash prize. Only serious minded individuals should respond to my email request.

Thank you for your feedback, Merina. It is valuable, and it’ll be taken into consideration for future promotions. There are still prizes out there waiting to be claimed. Good luck, and have a good day. ~Liralen

I just want to support the suggestions made by Chris and Marina. I, too, have been playing the Albertsons Monopoly Game for the past 4 years here in Utah. My daughter has also, as well as my sister in Laguna Niguel, CA, and another sister in San Diego. We have all kept in touch and all of us are missing only the rare/semi-rare in all categories. This year I have collected over 1100 tickets, and have not even won a $5 gift certificate. No one in my family has EVER won anything but two free tickets. I have never written to any company before, and I’m not complaining, just letting you know we have all decided to discontinue playing in the future. We will go back to shopping at other stores when prices are cheaper. Today at Albertsons, four people in line just gave me their tickets because they were “fed up”. So, I guess my family’s experience is very much the norm. The only bright spot is this year I actually got a semi-rare piece, 126 D, for the $50,000. Home Makeover. So, if anyone out there needs it, all offers are open!!!!

Kelly is correct. And what good is winning “two free tickets” if there are no more tickets to distribute? I have twenty free tickets to collect and have phoned every Albertson’s in the county, none have any tickets. They said I could mail each ticket in, separately, at a 49c plus an envelope cost to me for each one, which would enter my tickets into a sweepstakes. What a load of baloney. No wonder they are closing down all the Albertson’s….nobody would shop there anymore after this fraudulent “giveaway”.

Kim, thanks for your support. I am totally aware of “the odds of winning”, and that is the problem. Albertsons should listen to the customers and lower the odds of winning, at least for the smaller prizes, to give customers some incentive to play. How about taking a look at the high value prizes, eliminate one or two, and make the odds of winning a smaller prize in the realm of actual reality. Seriously???, five people playing for four years and spending well into the thousands (probably over $10,000) at Albertsons to get tickets, and not even ONE $5 gift card???? I am sorry your area is out of tickets. Here in UT they are giving away double tickets till Tuesday to get rid of them. Too bad they can’t send them to your store…

I have spent over $3000 a month for the last 5 years at Albertson’s and I all I have won was a gift card and a monopoly game….maybe you should give prizes the higher dollar amount you spend at your store. I use to get letters from the manager saying how great a customer I am, etc….but nothing now. Oh well, maybe I will just stick to getting my Rachael Ray…………….

Thanks for sharing the concerns you have on the Monopoly game, Clare. You feedback is very important and it will be reviewed for possible use in future promotions. ~Thomas

I just happened to read this — not my normal thing. I just laughed at all the people spending so much money and not winning anything. I am a low income senior who spends very little at Albertsons. Last year I played monopoly for the first time, and seriously, getting lots and lots of free tickets from other customers in check out line but winning nothing but lots of more free tickets, and I won all the game pieces on all the prizes except the final one. So this year I couldn’t care less. I just accepted whatever tickets I got, and only bought my usual few items, and thought I would just enter the second chance drawing. So far, with very few tickets (like less than total of 40 or maybe 50, I have won: 2 free bagels/doughnuts (2 separate tickets), one can corn, salt, loaf French bread, box of sandwich bags, and a reuseable shopping bag. Funnier, as I am vegetarian and organic, the only above items I would use would be the last 2. So I plan to gift a low income neighbor with all the other items. All my tickets were from the one store near my apt. So all you people who are spending a thousand dollars a month and driving all over your counties and state to different stores, and teaming up with friends and relatives in other locations, calm down. A mathematician will tell you, odds are odds. (laugh) I hope the odds are with me in the second chance drawing for the million if that happens…..
