Treats for You & Your Sweetheart!

Healthy Valentines Banner

Love is in the air so shake off those winter blahs with some festive sweet treats for your Valentine.  February has us seeing red and pink hearts as tokens of affection, and though Valentine’s Day often focuses on couples, it can be a fun time to share with the kids and friends too! Why not take heed to that old saying, “The way to your lover’s heart is through their stomach,” and win your sweetheart’s affection by heading straight to the kitchen? A box of chocolate is easy, but this year do a little something extra and whip up homemade healthier melt-in-your-mouth sweets that not only say ‘I love you’ but show you really care from the inside out.

  • Add festive pizzazz to recipes that call for chocolate chips by substituting with red and pink M&M’s.
  • Use pink icing or add red food coloring to white icing in dessert recipes to add to the theme.
  • Turn decorations into art projects and make kid-friendly Valentine’s Day décor with all of that candy. Put a pillar candle in a vase and surround with layers of candy hearts and hot tamales – see how creative you and the kids can get!
  • Chocolate, especially dark chocolate, contains healthy antioxidants.
  • If making treats for a class, cut smaller portions, place in plastic zip top or cellophane bags and tie with a pink ribbon for festive take-home goodie bags.
  • Be sure to look for inexpensive heart-shaped or other themed cookie cutters to cut sweets such as cookies or brownies.

Give any of these delicious, Valentine-worthy treats a try!

Strawberry bread recipe does not list strawberries in ingredients list. So how many strawberries and fresh or frozen? Please advise.

K, the recipe calls for 1 1/2 cups strawberries, hulled, coarsely chopped. Hope this helps! -Julio
